New York Metro

The enterprise-class NYM2 facility in Totowa, New Jersey, is a 200,000-square-foot facility offering 50,000 colocation square feet (CSF), up to 16 MW of power, and 60,000 square feet of work area recovery. This facility is one of several strategic, mission-critical data centers in the New York metro area.

Located just 17 miles from Midtown Manhattan, the NYM2 data center is ideal for primary production and the synchronous data replication requirements of mission-critical applications. This location provides the power, security, and network operations that support and protect mission-critical data and applications.

  • Regional Water Stress: The Totowa area currently faces high water stress, which is projected to remain high in the future.
Water Risk and Use Now 2030 Projection 2040 Projection
Regional Water Stress High High High
CyrusOne Water Use WUE 1.67 L/kWh

This facility is a legacy site that doesn’t use CyrusOne’s Zero Water Consumption Cooling; therefore, it consumes water like most data centers. We are examining opportunities for reducing water use at this facility.

  • Regional Grid Greenhouse Gases: How much greenhouse gas does this facility’s local electrical grid emit while generating electricity?  (Useful for Location-based greenhouse gas reporting)
Greenhouse Gases 2004 2007 2012 2016 2018
MTCO2/MWh 0.497 0.480 0.389 0.344 0.325
  • The carbon intensity of the grid has improved by about 2.7% points per year over the last 14 years of published data. Reported by the US EPA eGRID for the RFC East subregion (RFCE).
  • Regional Grid Renewables: What percentage of this facility’s local electrical grid is from renewable sources (wind, solar, biomass, hydro, and geothermal)?
Grid Renewables 2004 2007 2012 2016 2018
Percent from renewable sources 3.0% 2.3% 3.4% 4.2% 5.2%

This has been increasing by about 0.1% points per year over the last 14 years of published data.  Based on US EPA eGRID data for the RFC East subregion (RFCE).

  • Other Efficiency Measures: NYM2 uses efficient Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) in CRAH units, pumps, and air handlers. These VFDs allow the fans and pumps to blow at the minimum speed needed (as opposed to traditional on-or-off units).  In addition, it has heat exchangers to take advantage of “free cooling” from cooler fall and winter outdoor air temperatures.
